Got an Angel with pop-eye!

Wow.. This fish looked 100% normal yesterday and today.. one eye is huge!.. Did a massive w/c... hoping it was due to nitrate spike... I didn't take the time to do a chemistry check prior to w/c.. I was in too much of a hurry to get relief... Anything else you'd suggest?  Bill

Epsom salt for swelling! Best to use QT tank if you can. 3 teaspoons for 5 gallons. I'd feed antibacterial food exclusively for 7-10 days.

He's in QT.. epsom salt dosage.. now to find the food... Bill

I actually some have medicated food and medicine. Just not sure if i have something for Popeye. I can check when I get home. I think I have something for bacterial infection.

Anik... let me know when ya get home if you have some...I'm long overdue for a visit across the river! Tomorrow is out as I'm swapping labor for the day in that I'm painting a neighbor's bath and he'll be redoing all my power in the cave... Tue Wed are your days off IIRC...

How's the fish today??

The swelling has gone down but the lens itself looks like it has a fungus attached.  Swab it with peroxide?  Bill

Finally made the long trek to petco (1/2 mile?) to check out their 50% offering and pick up some fungal meds... Alas, due to my hesitation every T-5 bulb was gone... but I did pick up some API Pimafix and dosed the 29G QT tank... Fingers crossed for her!... I understand that if untreated it could just eventually fall out and she'd manage to exist as a one-eye'd creature.. but I don't want the other fish to make fun of her!

No peroxide on the lens:(...pimafix should help.

Pimafix, 2nd dose of 15 ml. for a 29G QT tank... eye has reduced by over 1/2 and the fungal looking stuff is almost gone.... Eye is still cloudy but he/she seems happy!  Eating well... Fingers still crossed! Bill

The cloudy eye is usually permanent damage done by the swelling. Most likely blind in that eye. Or at least partially blind. Depends on if the eye ball had swollen up or the area behind it.

Update... the swelling is pretty much gone.  There is about 1/3rd of the outside perimeter that is still discolored but the center is perfectly normal.  On day 3 of a 7 day treatment.  Fingers still crossed as it's a beauty.... I snapped some pics but HAVE to clean the exterior of the tank before I'll post those pics!  It is a QT tank after all...Bill

Bil...cloudy eye should heal up just fine. Damage has to be VERY severe/untreated to lose sight. Way to be on top of it and act quickly!

Day 4 of treatment... only about 20% of the iris area of the eye is cloudy... the swelling has almost disappeared... HE/SHE's going to make it it looks like!... Tks Dox... Bill
