Re: PVAS April 5th All-Day auction - Sat, April 5th - Fairfax, VA
I can't begin to tell ya all about the incredible deals that can be had at this auction. The first one I attended blew me away!... There were about 1,000 lot's being sold with stuff pouring in all day long....A lot can be a 6 pack of Angels, apisto's or swordtails... or tanks, plants, food etc. Typically the fish are coming from home breeders which is my favorite source. Plus each individual's name is on the line for offering quality....
It's suggested you bring a cooler for transporting your purchases...
The food is VERY cheap/reasonable but don't be expecting a filet migon!
They also have periodic raffles that keep things interesting...
Note....it can be a long day!.. But, if you spot something you want brought up out of sequence, a small fee takes care of that... (I think a dollar or so)....
Final Note! As the day drags on, the deals get better and better as the crowd thins out.
Bill

The "push" to move an item up in the auction that Bill mentions is $2.
The food will be Pizza. I think slices will be $2 - sodas, snacks, etc. $1.
If you want to make it quick to register, sign up on http://MyGroupAuctions.com. If you are selling please register your items early and try to get there before 10 am.
I know there will be a 5 gallon set-up as one of the raffle items.

There usually is a good assortment of Corydoras. There also will be some Aspidoras species a very close relative that tends to be a little smaller.

Verb.. the first time I attended one of PVAS's auctions, I got a lesson in Cory's.... There had to be at least a dozen or more different varieties up on the block......I'm saving my pennies for the outing! Bill

Items listing
We are up to 600 items between the tag sale and auction.
To avoid cluttering your board, you can check here:
http://www.pvas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6858
And that is just a partial listing(duplicates mostly removed).
As far as EBRs there are a pair or two in the auction. They probably will be more expensive than the tag sale ones. I think what is listed for EBRs is all that is coming because only one guy has some ready, the other breeder in the club sold out of them.

Re: PVAS April 5th All-Day auction - Sat, April 5th - Fairfax, VA
Trip report!
Ira and I made the trek north for the PVAS auction. The volume of offerings was again exceptional... UNFORTUNATELY, I'm either too cheap to shell out the bucks or the buyers over the last two times have learned their lessons in the past and KNOW you're going to be picking up some great home-bred stock versus fish-farm or sloppy breeders. I did manage to pick up a pair of GBR's and will next contact the breeder (the tag on the bag gives us the email-addy)...I also snagged a pair of Electric Blue Rams for Doxiemom as she was unable to attend. The two lots of EBR's that went up on the auction block blew through our agreed upon budget....I suspect she too will contact the breeder for a future shipment...(Dox, keep me in mind if you do!)
I also snagged a starter culture of Whiteworms so that'll be a start to supplying my future breeding operation!
Ira snagged some rare snails! Rabbit I think... They were about $10.00 each and as explained by Ira it's due to them having one off-spring a month! He also picked up a bag of plants....
I can't imagine the effort the PVAS team goes through to make something like this happen... Tks Verbal and the rest of the group "up north"... Bill

Well the kids got panda corydoras, and panda guppies, so they are thrilled.
A man sitting in front of us also gave us 2 juvi platy
and I got my 5 pygmy corydoras.
Oh, and my son got skinned knees and a scraps above and below one eye because it was past naptime and his sister decided to knock him down on the sidewalk.

Yup, hub took the bidding card as soon as I got it, so I won them for more than I would have bid, but oh well.

Also got the guts to take my Christmas ornaments and put them in the tag sale. One of the 13 I took sold, but still far better than if I didn't put them in! Got a feel for the event and need to start preparing earlier for it next year!

Thanks for entering your items in the tag sale. This was our first time doing an art section in the auction/tag sale. The sales were a little on the slow side, but I think it could be one of those things that takes a couple times to figure out.
