Did something similar on a much larger scale. Used golf ball sized bioballs and a powerhead for flow in a sump. It was ok but I believe that trickle system is more effective.

Yea. .I set one of these up once... I didn't like the appearance of such a big filter inside the tank. That's why we went with an external fluidized sand filter.

I have seen people try this in their sumps mostly. This video is just an example of how it works.

Bill, he has countless video of him doing crazy diy projects. Its not a bad idea to post something that someone else might pick up on.

I love urajoey. He does have some cool diy ideas. I watched one video that he actually created a 300gal aquarium using plywood, liquid rubber & 1 glass panel for the front for about $100! We created our 3ft canister filter for our 85 using his model. So far it works beautifully.

Once you understand the concept its actually not that bad and you are also saving money. So, its a plus plus for me
