Anik.. please explain your concept of a lottery and how it would differ from door prizes. Are you suggesting selling tickets? Bill

Anik.. if you are suggesting that we sell tickets for lottery prizes, there are a few things to consider. Things I've encountered in other fish clubs.
1. What do you do with the proceeds?
2. If you retain the revenue's from selling tickets, you need to appoint a treasurer to oversee those funds. There would need to be an oversee'er.. I.e. a board that would approve the statements and subsequent expenditure of said funds.
3. Next up is the IRS. Unless we file (at our expense) for a 501 c3 or c4 organization, the revenues collected from the sale of tickets would be subject to taxation. That taxation would require us to file each year upon that revenue.
While this sounds far-fetched, experience has shown that these situations do develop over time. In one case, the treasurer was utilizing club funds for personal use. Another case was where the club ignored the taxation issue which was fine until there was a rift among the personnel within the club and the "injured" party reported the issue to the IRS.
Perhaps this should be a discussion point for the 2/1/14 meeting!
For every good intention there are unforeseen consequences. Bill

Re: Suggestions for 2/1/14 meeting
Bill, I'm always trying not to involve money into clubs affairs. My idea kind of works like gift exchange. If you bring a gift/prize you get a number. At the end of our event we will pull those number and who gets their number called gets to pick first from gift/prize. Amp was at the party too. I'm sure he can give better details. I'm a scatter brain so things come and go from me. :0

I like that idea...sounds like it would prompt folks to bring something. Noooow...as with all gift exchanges..you will walk away bitter if you bring a nice gift and walk away with a old bag of airline tubing! LOL....Thoughts on THAT???

Well, we could all get creative any bring certain kinds of gift. Like for instance I bring fish food but I bring lots of it so everyone gets a bag. And bill can bring gravels but lots of it. All I'm saying is if we have enough stuff to give away I'm sure everyone will be happy at the end of the night .

Hey!.. I was as guilty as any!... Sometimes it takes a moment to step back and bring a bit of sanity to an exciting exchange... And categorize it in a rational manner... I just had a 1/2 minute of lucidity! (Don't count on it happening too often!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Bill

So Anik.. I'd suggest you start a sub-thread and orchestrate the lottery!... I've not the handle on the concept and how to administer it... Maybe rope in Dox? Bill
