Re: Name these fish?
All 3 are mbuna.
Not really sure on the first one. The second one is probably a Maingano. If it started out yellow, it is a male Johanni.
The 3rd looks like a Melanochromis, but I am not sure of the species.

Thank you!
I'm not sure that I'm going to keep them... If I don't they'll be free to another home...

The 3rd looks like a Krib... and the 4th? Could it be a leaf fish?

First 3 are most likely Africans. First two definitely are, and 3rd looks like one too, but sorta looks a little like a pale krib as well (probably still an African cichlid though). 4th is a leopard ctenopoma.

Re: Name these fish?
Bill....you are correct. The last one is a "leaf fish" (sold as). This one is nice!

I am pretty sure that number 3 is not a krib. A pic of the tail would confirm that. Where did you get it? What was it sold as?

sold just as cichlids.
I know it's a *terrible* place to buy fish but I walked by the area on my way to buy trash bags and wanted them --walmart--

Grrrrrrr.. Each time you spend money at wallyworld on fish, just gives them more reason to mistreat more fish!... POST your quest on here before buying!.....

I know. And I agree. I accept my chastisement roundly.
Walmart doesn't seem to treat anything it has kindly or with respect, so I'm sure their fish are at or near the bottom of the list.
Does that mean I shouldn't by plants there either? I do buy plants there sometimes, the fish were impulse. I wash the plants thoroughly and haven't had any problems. Is that the same or different than buying pansies for your front yard?

The risk is a little lower with plants. However one big issue is a good number of their plants are not actually aquatic plants. So they will end up dying and actually making water quality worse. It might cost a little more, but going where they know what they are doing will be a better experience in the long run.
Don't worry too much though, we all start out with similar experiences.

The first looks like a deformed peacock. The second two are probably johanis. But god knows what they really are coming from walmart.
They will eat the majority of your plants and kill your tropicals..........The neons will be eaten first, if not by the africans then defiantly by the leaf fish

ah...
yes, I know the neons and other tropics will eventually end up feeder fish.
I may invest in another tank to have rock and the cichlids. We'll see...
