Lets get this started, first club meet. <<New updated info>>
Unless someone volunteers to host a meet, I suggest we combine our meet with the James River Aquarium Society. I'll have to check with Dennis the club president but I doubt he'll have any problem with it. At the last meet there was an auction with lots of plants, some plants and aquarium equipment and supplies. I scored some super cheap plants at the meet.
When?
They meet every fourth Wednesday of each month.
Where?
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries' (VDGIF) in the 4000 Training Room adjacent to the Headquarters' Board Room at Virginia Department of Game and Inland
Fisheries (VDGIF) Headquarters, 4010 West Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia 23230. (We meet here every month.)
There's usually a dozen members each month and plenty of room for more. Each month is something different with guest speakers discussing something different each meet. This would be a great time to have a plant swap, auctions, sales, meet other members in person, and to share our experiences.

Victor.. have you had the opportunity to speak with Dennis? That meeting you referenced is 10 days away. If we are to combine meetings initially, it behooves us to get the word out. Bill

Dennis and his wife joined the PVAS bus trip about 1 1/2 years ago. I only met them briefly, but I have heard good things about them.
Bill I can pass on his email address if you want to contact him directly.

A little info about the auction part. Last meet there was an auction at the end. Basically members brought in unwanted livestock, plants, and equipment to donate. The funds generated went towards the club and will help to fund future events. I got several nice freshwater plants for about a buck a piece, and some plant fertilizer for next to nothing. I also donated several bag fulls of trimmings from my overgrown tanks.
For those interested in auctioning off their items for profit, in the future there are plans for holding regular auctions for sellers and vendors. But right now the groups are small and mostly intended for fun and sharing. Great way to get rid of the junk in the fish closet and help others in this hobby.
Just wanted to note that Rama from Skoolz of Fish has been an active member and IMO is the "go-to LFS" for freshwater fish and supplies. Even has some nice prices on used setups for those interested in getting big tanks, without dropping a couple grand on a new setup. So if you're tired of same old thing offered at Petco and Petsmart, check out his shop or give him a call. I haven't seen any other LFS carry what he has, and I hear that he does a lot of custom ordering for his customers. It's very nice to have local suppliers taking interest in a small local fish club. I feel very fortunate to have that here. Both a freshwater store and a saltwater store helping a local club. Nice

In about two weeks I'll have around 100lbs of well-established PFS available. You're welcome to as much as you'd like.

It will be the only tank in my house. My prev one left about a year ago.
I've had about a 55 gal in my bedroom since I was a wee tot. I've always loved watching my angels swimming back and forth, but after going to skoolz last week I may have to try some discus. enchanting.

When ya drop by tomorrow for the plants, you'll get a view of 15 Discus!... Your 55 is capable of hosting up to 5.. and that might be pushing it a tad if you err on the side of safety... TO ME? They are the king/queen of the fresh-water world. Bill

Seeding floss helps to jump start your bacteria so little or no 6 to 8 week wait for ammonia levels to rise and fall. Seeding floss is just floss from an established filter and Bill's tanks are well established. LOL

Vix.. with seeded material from one of your tanks, I had a cycled 29G tank in 3 days. Dumped in 12 quarter sized discus and reared them to twice the size in 6 weeks. Sold off 1/2 of em and almost recouped my total investment!...

Anybody going to the 7:30pm meeting at Atlantis tomorrow? I may not be able to make it, but if I can, I plan on going. Always cool to learn a little more about saltwater aquarium keeping, even if I don't have any plans for one.
