anyone know of an algae eater that can take the conditions of a malawi cichlid tank?

Aggressive mbuna can be tough, although some will at least nibble on algae.

Peacocks and milder haps can work with Brislenose Plecos.

Nerite snails are pretty tough and might the best option for cichlids that would pick on BN plecos.

Nerites are excellent little cleaners. I kept them in most of my African tanks. They won't reproduce in freshwater, but they will leave little white eggs stuck everywhere, which can get unsightly (though it's not as bad as having one of those bright orange Cthulhu fish in the tank, IMO).
I've got a picture somewhere illustrating the awesome cleaning powers of the Nerite snail - I'll see if I can find it and get it up.

If you go with a bristlenose DO NOT get a longfin!!!! They will die in days with all that finnage it makes em a target, regular fins are fine.

rhino plecos will work as well

Ive had great luck with Chinese algae eaters, make sure that they are big enough though, smaller ones will get picked on
