Well bad news, I now have a black beard type algae in my salt tank. I am currently doing lots of water changes and black outs (blanket over the tank and everything) to slowly kill this crap off. everything in my tank looks horrid. even my fish look bad (losing their color). My corals are dying everything looks like crap except my cleaner shrimp haha. There is a good note though, I am pulling large amounts of green skimmate off my skimmer and the algae is disappearing. I have found the reason of algae in every tank i have. It is by a large window and the tanks get a large amount of light. so in the future I'm going to blanket the tanks till its time to turn the lights on.

Yeah thats one of the hic ups with having a reef tank. Ive notice that black algae has trouble rotting in slow current water I added a power head an filter to Kim from the top since your running a skimmer you might wanna watch for build up of algae in the skimmers port holes a simole rinse will do fine but if its the completely sealed unit you might have to soak it over night let gravity do its thing. Best of luck though. An get a snail in there nerite snails do good I believe.

well I did what i didn't want to do in the first place. i bought a sump. well its a wet dry filter but I haven't decided weather or not to go with the wet dry set up or alter it to be more of a refugium sump. hopefully this will solve a lot of the algae problems. ill post pictures when its done.
