anyone have any advice or plans or ideas to make a sump for a 55 gallon salt water tank? id like to turn my spare 55 gallon into a salt tank but of course id like a sump to expand the water size and to just do something different.

I've seen a couple good ones with protein skimmers an some with out they all were twenty gallon long tanks divided in four sections bio Catcher ,slated glass with one inch gaps between compartments the biggest con I saw was the skimmer takes up a lot of space look them up on diy saltwater sump

Yea I've done some research and a lot of people do that skimmer in the sump thing. i don't know if i like it or not. I am thinking either using a 55 gallon tank with a 20L sump or a 29 or 30 with a 10 sump maybe even a fluval 306 or 406. if i go with the 55 ive been thinking about doing the skimmer as a hang on and putting the heater in the sump. I see some people doing live rock filters and refugiums. I don't really understand the live rock filters if you have live rock in the tank and i don't see myself doing a refugium cuz im going to start with a fish live rock only tank and move up to coral eventually.

Any other advice or anything i should research. I've done some research and doing this salt water tank is still kinda far out but i am going into this blind almost.

Oh and another note. I'm drawing a mock up of what i might do in 3d on the computer here at work in my down time. I'll post a picture and see what yall think and get yalls input.

AA,, at one time we had a salt section on here that one of our members did an incredible job documenting the start and progress of his immersion into salt... Unfortunately, I assigned an Admin that removed the whole section due to the narrow level of interest. We can reinstate it back up if you're so inclined to document your entry into salt!
