Black brush algae

Ok, I know the subject has been brought up before. I currently have an outbreak of black brush algae and its actually choking out my plants. Besides buying a Siamese algae eater, I've read that if i get a C02 injector it will slowly push it away and my plants will start to come back. I'm getting one regardless of weather it works or not but does anyone have any experience of this working?

I have the same problem of black algae on my 10 gal. I have a presurize Co2 system but I still have the problem. I did raise the bpm of the Co2 but my fish start acting weird and looking for oxigen on the surface so I put it back to were it was.
In my case I think is to much light. Im using a 13 W CFL 6500K but it is really close to the water, so I have to work on that.
The other think that Im trying right know is Hydrogen Peroxide, it kills the black algae turning it like a red color the only problem is that the algae still there you have to remove it or find a fish that will eat it. You could do a google search on hydrogen peroxide for black algae and find more info on this and see if it will work for you. IME it have not hurt the fish, they still looking good and eating good.

thanks i did some research on the peroxide. looks like a huge like mass algae killer. might have to try it. Just have to do a bunch of water changes and all kinds of monitoring. Going to try the C02 first though because i do not know how my discus will take all that stress. then going to do sea chem excel. saw that high dosages of that will help too just have to monitor levels in the tank closely. If neither of those work I'm deffenatly going to try the H2O2 just as a last resort.

Well I've been doing massive water changes to reduce the excess nutrients. I have tons of frogs bite at the top to try and absorb some of that too. all the drift wood and rocks have been taken out and have been soaking in a solution of peroxide and HOT water and i change that every day. The c02 injector is going but not on full blast till i get my drop checker in. Cross your fingers.

well another update. (pictures to come soon) the after almost 2 weeks of running the co2 and 4 40-50% water changes a long with 2 filter clean outs the algae is looking a lot better. the c02 is pushing it out, and I just keep cleaning up the dead stuff. I now am able to grow plans again and its looking good. still have some bits here and there but its looking a lot better. I'm going to have to try this on my smaller tank now too. I also have a new 55 gallon tank coming in today so soon i will be switching over to get rid of the rest of the little stragglers. Think i might reseal the spare one scrape it and bleach it and do a salt water tank one day . I digress. ill post some pics soon of how the tank looks now. thanks for the help guys.

well the good news is that the tank is now Black Brush Algae free ill get some pictures up soon. i now have plants growing like weeds in the tank and the fish seem a lot happier
