Explain the pull of angelfish
Ok, this one is missing me. Beautiful fish, but if I'm understanding right once they reach breeding age harder to keep in groups (or impossible?) Willing to admit I have very little knowledge of these, so explain away

Re: Explain the pull of angelfish
Without a shred of scientific backup and based solely upon personal observation:
Yea.. they are fun to watch as the grow to adulthood.. No animosity exhibited between the group until they do become interested in the opposite gender. Both the female and male will let the others know they they're "in the mood" and at that time, all others should leave them to themselves. Once that is established, those around them tend to respect their established boundaries and leave them alone. Once they've gotten their off-spring to a point where parenting isn't a major concern for the pair, they then tend to rejoin the community. Oddly enough, the pairing up and subsequent spawning efforts seems (In my limited experience) to trigger other couples to hook up!
Just my 2 cts. Bill

Re: Explain the pull of angelfish
Kat.....VERY GOOD QUESTION!! I had to think a bit before answering!
Personally, I'm drawn to Angels because of their calming grace, protective nature, and beauty. On another level...Angels have a significant "meaning" in my life.
They can be kept in groups, they are amazing parents (to witness them raising is awesome!). And Bill pretty much covered the list of companion fish.
As a long time Angel lover....I could go into MUCH more detail about them but won't bore you with that! I think it's just what a person is drawn to. A few years back I tried raising African Cichlids because everybody said they were awesome! 4 months later I sold them to a guy who thought mine were spectacular! I don't see the draw to those!! LOL....... Right back to Angels I went!

Re: Explain the pull of angelfish
I don't no how I haven't responded to this thread lol....Long story short my dad used to breed goldfish and angels back when I was 7. Since then I always found aquatic creature interesting. I'm just following my dads dream in a way I guess. There are numerous fish that are very compatible with angelfish. I for one like having ecosystems in my tank. Like invertebrates, bba eater, algae eaters, bottom feeders, mid swimmers, top swimmer and etc. To just name a few.I just like seeing Angels being the main attraction in my tank while everything else just enhances their beauty. I like discus as well but my true love is angel because how easy it is to take care of them and I love studying their genetics .
