Help with my Angels mystery deaths Empty Help with my Angels mystery deaths

I have some Black Lace, Philippine Blues, and some Philippine Ghosts that are mysteriously getting sick and dying. They are in two different tanks and neither tank has had anything new added for over 2 weeks. Water changes are done regularly every week and all water tests come out excellent. No visible signs other than very slight coloration drop and thin in body. They do eat okay and no noticeable change in feces'. All are fed NLS pellets and have not changed their diets. They are housed with compatible tank mates that never show signs of aggression. Angels ranged in size from quarter to half dollar in body size. No other tank mates are showing any signs of illness or deaths. No aerosols nor cleaning products have been used anywhere near the room where housed. Both tanks have been established for over a year. I've been dosing with Pimafix, and Melafix but still losing one a day. No real signs of gasping for air, rubbing or scraping against rocks, plants or sand. No visible spots on body or fins.
Any ideas????

Could be internal parasite.

Everything sounds sound... Gill plates aren't odd?

As Neo stated, it could be a parasite as evidenced by the thin body.

Other than that, I'm sure Doxiemom will log on in the A.M. .. and maybe Ira... Two long-experienced Angel keepers that might be able to offer more definitive advice.

Strt treating them in a QT (quarantine tank) for bacterial infections and internal parasites. I'd suggest trying Clout but there's plenty of other good medications out there. Petsmart is the only place I know of to get antibacterial meds that contain active ingredients that actually works. The only reason they can sell pharmacy grade meds is because they have a Vet on site, where as other LFS such as Petco can't sell any pharmacy controled medications.

Check the dead fish's gills as soon as they die. Are they a normal pinkish red color or pail peachish to white color? Any film over the eyes or fuzzy spots on fins?

Stop using your current food and dechlorinator and get new stuff. The food may have been from a bad batch and that's a possible cause for weight loss. You may not be fully dechlorinating the tap water and that would explain fish loss, especially if it occurs after a water change. I highly recommend using Prime and use a double dose to treat the chloramine in Richmond's tap water.

Quarter to half dollar size indicates you haven't had them long....where did you get them?
To check for intestinal parasites.....
Usually fish look fine at first...eat well
Then you'll notice hiding, "staring", taking food but spitting it back out, then refusal to eat, loss of color, lethargy, weak, thin fish, then death.
The BEST treatment IF you have parasites is METRODIAZOLE. IF you can get them to eat...lace the food (frozen bloodworms work well) with Metro and feed ONLY laced food 2x daily. ALSO...treat the tank water. (remove carbon/charcoal).
I would NOT change anything else....too much change is super stressful to the fish.
NOTE ON METRO: No local Big Box stores carry it in it's pure form. They DO carry meds with Metro and Prazi as the main ingredient. Lifeguard is a good med to get started with until you can get the good pure stuff (Walmart even carries it) Try a local fish store close to you for the pure form.

Bill, I think Fin & Feather and Atlantis over on Patterson. I buy mine on eBay...takes about 2-3 days to arrive. Lifeguard will help some until METRO arrives!!

Thank you for your's and everyone's help. I could not find pure METRONDAIZOLE, but did find at Petsmart API General Cure which the first ingredient was METRONDAIZOLE 250 mg. Gave it a try using directions on box and looks like may have worked. I will keep a close watch on both tanks that I was having issues with and watch for anymore signs but so far so good. I will let you know again in a few days how my Angels are doing. All other fish also seem to be doing okay. Keeping fingers crossed.
Merry Christmas to All!

Wonderful update!! Good to hear they are turning around! Good find on the General Cure.
Pure Metro is good for "lacing" food.
If I may offer this.....intestinal parasites are somewhat common and a pain to get rid of. You will want to get the pure Metro (or Metro medicated food) and add to food for 10 days. Feed this exclusively! Reason.....the little creeps lie in the intestines and the life cycle will begin again!! Best to wipe them out all at once or you'll be dealing with it again soon! UGH!! Please keep us updated on your tanks!!
Merry Christmas to you!!
