Open Meeting for all involved~
With the pending receipt of a group order, discussions about where to assemble for allocation of ordered products, someone suggested that we meet and accomplish that goal as well as having a general meet and greet!
So.. the floor is open for suggestion for ALL of us to assemble and discuss the direction and vision for this fish club. So to paraphrase an associate (Ira).. where would you like this club to go and focus on?
Please submit your questions / responses to any of the current administrators or Ira or me. Thank you all! Bill

How does everyone feel about brainstorming over a pizza and beer? We could all meet at a central pizza place...or something like that??

ummmm.. Pizza and beer?.. I'll have to evaluate that concept! A great place somewhat localized is Angelo's close to 60 and Courthouse... Separate room avail... And on Wednesdays 2 pies for the price of one and great tasting!

So Neo.. get with your co-Admins and come up with a date.. Be forewarned that you'll NEVER be able to schedule a meet/time/place that appeals to every member... Between the 3 of ya.. pick a date and place and those that can show up, will do so! Bill

How does everyone feel about combining this club's meeting with another club's meeting at a neutral location? The JRAS is deciding whether or not to hold a meeting this month because their normal meeting time would fall on the day before thanksgiving and not many people will be able to make it. But we could possibly combine the two clubs and have a decent turn out and get to know a few more people. I think Atlantis Aquatium has offered to allow the meeting at their store if that's sounds good. Or a Pizza place works too. Just a suggestion.

Re: Open Meeting for all involved~
Amp.. If I recall, it's been a goal of yours for quite a while to get these two clubs to join hands and even possibly combine!.. For over a year or so, there was supposed to be some contact between the two groups but that has never happened for some reason. I've no problem at all with the idea/concept but really, this is a group owned by 41 individuals. Three folks have been nominated to administer the site but in reality those three hold but one each of the 41 votes.
Secondly, the reason I thought we'd have this meeting is to jointly discuss issues about the group. Slow growth, lowered participation and vision for the group as a whole. To include a 2nd group during this discussion would preclude or dilute the input we'd receive from the collective members. Perhaps two meetings? Possibly on the same day? Bill

Is it possible for someone to seek info about if we can get permission to post flyers in the fish areas of some local stores? Skool, richmond aquariums, um.... looking up other richmond one I know.... Azalea Aquariums, possibly fin and feather? Just simple flyer with tear off tabs of the site address to see if we can build up new members that would be active?

Kat.. great idea! I think we still have an OLD flyer at Skoolz...from the predecessor group that is pretty much defunct. Can you design a flyer/poster?

Re: Open Meeting for all involved~
Petco doesn't allow posting fliers but if someone can make some business cards then I might be able to hand them out at work. I'll check with my boss first and see if its allowed.
Bill...I completely understand what you're saying. I'm just trying to come up with ways of having a better turn out at the meets. The local saltwater club has on average 50 or more members at the monthly meetings and I'd love to see the freshwater club meets beat that. There's many more freshwater keepers than saltwater. So it shouldn't be hard. I agree that we need to discuss some strategies to get this club to grow.
Here's my initial ideas and I plan to expand on them at the meeting:
Monthly plant swaps: I trim my planted tanks monthly and can offer free plants as door prizes for those that show up.
Improved help section: most forum lurkers are looking for answers to problems. Maybe there can be a section that is designed in a way that encourages people to ask question about their problems.
Start an ID section: has a thread section where members can contribute photos and their experience with specific species. Then take this information and develop specie character descriptions. Could also create a unique compatibility chart based on member's opinions. Have poles and allow members to vote on whether two species are compatible and voice their thoughts.

Re: Open Meeting for all involved~
Amp.. do you have any clue as to why you were selected to become an Admin? LOL.....
All great ideas...
My initial vision for this group?
To be a resource center....
Ya wanna know about Angel Fish...head on over to VaFA.
Ya wanna know about Invertebrates? Head on over to VaFA..
Ya wanna know about Discus?....Etc.
Others may be looking for a more "chat oriented" environment.
Some are looking for solely a means of buying/selling stock/equipment...
The ultimate direction will only be realized by those who participate!

Re: Open Meeting for all involved~
Oh, Kat.. your idea of "tear-off's" on the flyer is sorta what we did with the old club except I created a word-doc with like 60 URL's of the club, printed a number of pages and cut them with a paper cutter. Rama (Skoolzoffish) had him at this check-out counter.
Amp: Business Cards... I can fund the purchase of 500-1,000 cards but there needs to be settled upon a design for the Logo! (I've been pleading for input for quite a while). Now how do you suggest the distribution of that inventory?
Banner... at one time there was a discussion for our banner (logo at the top of each page)....My "vision" was to have various members submit pics of THEIR fish for inclusion in the banner. On a periodic basis rotate the various photo's displayed. Any geeks capable? Bill

Polls would be a great way to get people's opinions. I will start some projects in 14 and changing the banner is one of them. Just give me some time

I'm fairly decent with Photoshop but don't currently have a copy. If someone could hook me up with a copy I'll take care of the logo.

I was messing with a trail one last time but have to ask around for a copy or something. I know you get one month of free photoshop if you just register for it.

Re: Open Meeting for all involved~
Looking at some stats
we have 42 registered members.
14 of those have never posted
which leaves us with 28 participating members
another 10 have posted less than 10 times
So really we have 18 members who have enough posts to need to use more than both hands to count their posts.
Our users have posted a total of 2561 messages
neogeo has posted 463
willie has posted 505
(968 just the 2 of them)
So more than 1/3 of the posts are by those 2 members and the other 2/3 are made up by the other 28 people who have ever posted. (and guest posts or members who have left)
I can see what I can come up with for cards as well as fliers - can other people ask at the stores if they would allow fliers or cards? and can anyone print them if I make them and get the file to you? Biggest thing right now is trying to get active member count up. Is there a way for admins to send a group email out if we have contests or such on the forum to send a newsletter type thing to nonactive members to maybe encourage some to return?

Too many good suggestions here. I think we need to keep track of all the suggestions and discuss when we get together.
