So exactly 2 days after I took the spawning pair to Bill, another pair of angels have taken up the spawning spot and are chasing everyone to the opposite side of the tank. If this is the way it's going to be, I'm going to go and pick up my other pair of angels and maybe add a few?

I heard that if there are more angels in there that there's less chance of them trying to spawn all the time.

Is that true?

Bill - are those angels still there?

Many people struggle to get a pair of Angels to spawn! LOL Obviously, you have a knack for creating the right conditions for them!! Smile
There is no SURE way (that I know of) to keep them from spawning unless you only keep one sex. It is possible even then, to have false spawns if you have all females. Not likely...but possible.
If you put another spawning pair back into the tank.....you will have TWO pairs fighting for a site to lay eggs.

*If you choose to keep a pair.....i have used a clear plexiglass divider to separate the pair from the other fish while they spawn. At very least...you would create a food source for your Leaf fish.

They haven't actually spawned yet. The HOB intake is still at Bill's. They're in the stage of viciously cleaning the plant of choice.

I'm considering rehoming all of them and getting a huge purple flowerhorn to put in that 75 gal.

Although I'd have to craft a lid first.

Doxy, are you interested in any breeding pairs?

LOL!! Like I said....some people have a "knack" for this! Maybe you should get some more tanks and answer the calling! hahahaha
Just leave them be and once the fry free swim...take them out with a turkey baster and use them as a food source unless you decide to grow them out.
I am in the process of moving so I am not taking on any breeders right now but thank you for asking!!

You can WC but you'll stress the pair. They may eat the eggs.
It IS normal for different fish to have different shades of eggs.

Well the fry have started to take off from their leaf this morning. The parents are having a heart attack.

I turned off the HOB near the leaf. Otherwise, I'm not sure what else to do at this point. I could put them all in my guppy tank?

There are sooooo many!

COCO....what are your intentions with the fry? If you don't want to rear them, then nature will take over...so just leave them. IF you do want to rear them out...they need about 2-3 gallons for the next stage in growth...and some BBS or Microworms.

I feel a little guilty, but no, I don't want to rear them.

Awww....don't feel guilty! It IS very time consuming to rear out a brood of Angels to selling size if you don't have the proper setup. Just leave them be and nature will decide what happens. You will have them spawning every 2-3 weeks for a long time!!

Looks like a shortened gill plate. That happens at birth.

Thanks Doxie. I was wondering what the hell that was. Odd being able to see his gill in there so clearly, but he doesn't seem sick or 'off' so que sara sara.

Anyway -- now that I have the yellow pair back in the tank, they have spawned again (wrigglers already) on the HOB intake and the other pair (pictured on this thread) have spawned on the canister intake, which is on the far side.

Sigh.

I sort of feel for the tetras and other angels caught in the crossfire. Seems even the cories are getting in on part of the action. Maybe I'll sit down with them tomorrow and have group counseling.

Interestingly, the yellow female chose another male. She seems to have ditched the yellow veil male for a regular yellow male. As soon as the fry started to free swim, they ate them all.

Now back to the other corner of the tank where the other pair's fry should start to free swim.

Good Advice, thanks. It was 84 degrees in the house when I got home yesterday. Maybe when I put in the ACs I'll be able to keep the temp that low in the tanks.
